Making a difference

We like to think Spots of Time makes a difference in two main ways. Firstly, there is the direct benefit of the activities we deliver in the community, as measured in the number of hours people have given. Secondly and just as importantly is the seed Spots of Time plants in the people carrying out the activity and the people who benefit from it. For example, after introducing a group of older people to YouTube a volunteer may be inspired to get involved in her community on a longer-term basis. Equally, after benefiting from the Spots of Time session older people may be inspired to make greater use the Internet day-to-day, making it easier for them to keep in touch with family and friends.

Since piloting Spots of Time eight months ago we have:

• Worked with five individual community organisations in East London.

• Provided over 60 hours of fun, bite-sized activities.

• Supported over 200 older people, many of whom are experiencing dementia and/or dementia.

• Worked with 40 young people, many of who are experiencing disadvantage or are recovering from brain injury.
